Pulmonary Rehabilitation

Pulmonary Rehabilitation

Pulmonary Rehabilitation is a program for people with chronic lung disease. Lung disease is the number 3 killer in America, responsible for one in seven deaths. Lung disease is a general term to encompass illnesses such as emphysema, chronic bronchitis, asthma, bronchiectasis, and interstitial lung disease.

The Pulmonary Rehabilitation Program at Bingham Memorial Hospital is designed to provide comprehensive care to individuals with pulmonary disease. This course can last up to ten weeks, depending on the individual's needs.

The Team Approach

At Bingham Memorial Hospital, our Pulmonary Rehabilitation Program offers a variety of healthcare specialists including dietitians, pharmacists, physical therapists, and respiratory therapists. This multidisciplinary team evaluates each patient's overall physical status and prepares an individualized plan to achieve optimal lung function by combining education and exercise. Educational sessions include:

  • Breathing retraining
  • Role of medications
  • Energy conservation
  • Proper nutrition
  • Dealing with lung disease

Exercise sessions are designed to meet your specific needs and goals, while your medical status and progress is monitored and evaluated.

The Benefits

The primary goal of Pulmonary Rehabilitation is for patients to achieve and maintain the maximum level of independence and functionality possible in life. We do this by:

  • Reducing symptoms related to shortness of breath
  • Increasing exercise tolerance
  • Promoting personal well being
  • Decreasing hospitalization and emergency room visits
  • Teaching more about chronic lung disease

If you want to increase your health and learn to overcome this limiting disease, please call us to schedule an evaluation.
