Daron Scherr, M.D., FAASM
Specialty: Sleep Disorders
Dr. Scherr specializes in sleep medicine, and has been helping residents of Southeast Idaho to have a better night’s rest.
From an early age, Dr. Scherr had a love for science, and knew that his future career would have something to do with the subject. He originally wanted to perform medical research, but that changed during his third year of medical school in Birmingham, Alabama. The genuine thanks that Dr. Scherr received on his first day of patient care sparked a passion within him and a desire to help people for his entire life. He said, “Every day, I feel good about doing good.”
As an employee of his patients, Dr. Scherr knows it is important to listen to patients. He enjoys sharing his knowledge, educating and helping patients to truly understand their medical conditions. Patients come to Dr. Scherr to diagnose and treat obstructive sleep apnea, insomnia, restless leg syndrome, fatigue, anxiety, snoring, nocturia, nocturnal pain, and shift work sleep disorders.
People who suffer from obstructive sleep apnea can have a 300 percent increase in stress hormones, and it can increase the negative effects of insulin resistance, diabetes, and other related conditions.
Restful sleep is a vital part of health and the healing process. When sleep disorders are treated correctly, a good night’s rest can reduce the risk of heart attack and stroke by 50 percent. Sleep can also increase the efficiency of your heart by an average of 33 percent.
Dr. Scherr and he and his wife Susan have 2 boys. They are a very close and active family who enjoy winter sports, camping, skateboarding, the zoo, museums and reading. Dr. Scherr is an avid pilot, and owns a couple of experimental airplanes. He loves to take his sons when performing aerobatics. In the next year, he hopes to take up parachuting as well.
Dr. Scherr at the Bingham Memorial Sleep Lab is welcoming new patients at the Idaho Physicians Clinic. To schedule an appointment with Dr. Scherr call 785-3800.
