BLACKFOOT, ID – January 6, 2017 – Today, Bingham Memorial Hospital (BMH) proudly presented Pastor Jacqualine “Big Momma” Thomas in Pocatello with a check for $5,000 to go toward her 501(c)3 Big Momma’s House for the homeless. Thomas is the pastor of Praise Temple of God Church in Pocatello.
Last month, Pastor Thomas made a public plea for help to make Big Momma’s House become a reality. She called upon local business owners, community members, and the faithful believers in God to rally support for the purchase of the property located at 916 E. Sublette.
In addition to the support of many, Dr. Naeem Rahim generously made a donation of $23,000 to support her praiseworthy cause, and he extended the challenge to others in the community to contribute. Moved by Pastor Thomas’ cause and the challenge from Dr. Rahim, Jeff Daniels, CEO at BMH, decided that BMH would help, too.
On Big Momma’s website, Pastor Thomas defines compassion as a feeling of deep sympathy and sorrow for another who is stricken by misfortune, accompanied by a strong desire to alleviate the suffering.
“At BMH, we strongly believe in compassion, too, and providing compassionate care in everything that we do,” said Mr. Daniels. “Our vision statement is: ‘High Quality. High Compassion.’ and making this donation exemplifies how compassion can extend beyond the walls of our medical facilities and into the community. Similar to Pastor Thomas, I believe that sincere compassion drives the highest skill and quality of care and that true healing only occurs when compassion is part of the cure.”
The mission of Big Momma’s House is to provide a safe and comfortable supportive housing to those who are homeless, and their goal is to give hope and offer a home to the homeless. It is a nonprofit organization that looks to work closely with its residents by offering shelter, three meals a day, supportive housing, job assistance, transportation, substance abuse counseling, domestic violence counseling, anger management, mental health treatment, and the teaching of life skills.
“We were extremely pleased to present this check to Pastor Thomas and to give back to the community in this way,” said Mr. Daniels. “I would also like to extend this challenge to everyone in the community—individuals and businesses—to make a contribution of any size. If people come together as a community and donate, you might be surprised how many lives can be positively impacted. Not to mention, the entire community benefits when all of its members are physically, mentally, and spiritually healthy.”
