Suffering from Uterine Fibroids?

Apr 11, 2018Health Focus, Health Matters for Women

“Women, if you’re suffering from any of these symptoms, then you may have uterine fibroids. They can be diagnosed with a simple uterine fibroid screening.”

Uterine fibroids are noncancerous tumors that grow in the uterus. They are not usually dangerous, but their symptoms can be painful and disruptive. Symptoms include unpredictable cycles, heavy, prolonged menstrual bleeding, frequent urge to use the bathroom, extreme pain, and negative impact on sex life. In addition, uterine fibroids can cause the following symptoms:

  • Backaches
  • Bleeding in between cycles
  • Bloating
  • Constipation
  • Difficulty emptying bladder
  • Enlarged uterus

Women, if you’re suffering from any of these symptoms, then you may have uterine fibroids. They can be diagnosed with a simple uterine fibroid screening.

There are many options to treat uterine fibroids, but only interventional radiologists can perform a uterine fibroid embolization (UFE), which is a safe, nonsurgical alternative to a hysterectomy. Through a tiny incision in the wrist or groin, an interventional radiologist inserts a catheter that delivers particles to block the small blood vessels feeding each uterine fibroids, causing them to shrink and disappear. This nonsurgical procedure is unlikely to cause menopause, preserves the uterus, has shorter recovery times, and quick symptom relief.
