About Bingham Memorial’s Diabetes & Osteoporosis Center

Bingham Memorial’s Diabetes & Osteoporosis Center specializes in the diagnosis and care of adults with diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, osteoporosis, and thyroid disorders.

Diabetes is a disease where a person’s blood sugar levels are higher than normal for an extended period of time, and has become one of the most common chronic diseases among Americans in the last 20 years. Approximately 25.8 million people in the United States suffer from either type 1 or type 2 diabetes.

Osteoporosis is a medical condition in which the bones become brittle and fragile from loss of tissue, typically as a result of hormonal changes or deficiency of calcium or vitamin D, and this disease can affect people at any age—both men and women. According to the National Osteoporosis Foundation, 54 million Americans have osteoporosis or low bone mass, putting them at risk for broken bones.

The thyroid is a butterfly-shaped gland nestled just below the voice box in the lower front of the neck. The thyroid makes hormones, which are secreted into the blood and then carried to every tissue in the body. Thyroid hormone helps the body use energy, stay warm and keep the brain, heart, muscles, and other organs working as they should. Our thyroid specialists work closely with patients to treat thyroid disorders such as hyperthyroidism, hypothyroidism, thyroid cancer, and thyroid nodule.
