The Servant’s Heart Award - First Quarter Recipients - 2021

As we strive to deepen the culture of loving care, we seek to recognize those who demonstrate a deep, natural compassion for others in words and deeds. Our quarterly Servant’s Heart Award honors team members who are recognized by their peers for delivering loving and compassionate care.

Congratulations to our First Quarter Servant’s Heart Recipients for 2021

Medical Team

Carolyn L. Hansen, FNP-C, (MSN, RN, CBN)

Nominated by: Anonymous

“Carolyn Hansen has been fully engaged as long as I’ve known her. She has been innovative, worked hard, and sacrificed a lot for the hospital, as well as for the people. She is both an administrator and clinician. This award is one that honors her as a clinician. There are many instances of Carolyn putting others first in her work. You can tell she really cares and advocates for patients, especially in both the Gero-Psych and emergency department).

“A small but memorable experience from the August 2017 solar eclipse—when others were trying to find their best vantage point, she was thinking of patients and staff more than herself, as she gathered extra shades and assisted others outside or to windows to witness this rare event.”

Nursing Team Member

Betty Carpenter, CNA

Nominated by: Anonymous

“Betty Carpenter is selfless and takes care of resident’s in our Skilled Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, and treats them as her own family. She’s always available for resident’s needs and spoils them with her attention and time. She shells out her own money, energy, and time to make them feel special and loved. A few examples: She trims and colors resident’s hair with their permission; makes Halloween costumes for them on her days off; and, comes to the workplace to volunteer on special occasion to ensure residents look good and presentable.

“Very recently, Betty came to work (on her day off) to help one of our sweet residents get ready for her wedding. She did her hair and make-up and wheeled her down the ‘aisle.’ It just made the resident and this day feel extraordinarily beautiful. Betty is beautiful and she is always serving.

“With a heart of gold, she is very deserving of this award!”

Alma Mendoza, Patient Financial Advocate

In the billing area it is rare to get thank you notes, but when we do, people say wonderful things.

The following thank you card truly reflects what Alma does for our patients. Here is the note:

“Dear Alma,

Thank you so much for your successful efforts in helping me resolve my financial issues with the hospital. I couldn’t be more pleased. I’m always impressed with someone who knows their job and does it well; and does exactly what they say they will do. Well done Alma! You helped me so much and for that I am truly grateful.
